Seattle’s high seismic risk is known by scientists and reported on by media. But more deliberately designed engagement is needed to nurture prominent and positive seismic culture rooted in trust between each other and our built environment. Seismic Cultures is an opportunity to reveal our embedded narratives and provoke collaborative discussion and action. This project presents implicit and explicit cues for Seattle’s public realm that address both possible and past earthquakes. Seismic Cultures aims to contribute towards a collective knowledge about our seismic city in hopes of more active, tangible local seismic culture.
