This installation consists of a radial grid of fabrics of differing opacity, with voids cut through this 3-dimensional grid from varying angles. Visitors can walk around the object and experience the alignment and misalignment of these voids from different perspectives. Once inside, the visitors’ world expands by dimensions, up and down, through the use of a mosaic mirrored floor and ceiling, giving the feeling of infinite depth and height. Visitors are able to experience the various perspectives of the voids from this central space. This installation addresses the idea of emergence by creating two very different perspectives, whether you are inside or outside. It is both an object to be viewed in space, and a space itself. The liminal “walls” and the infinite floors and ceiling play with the sense of enclosure and challenge our sense of emergence. Do you emerge by stepping out or stepping in?
