Q: TRUST in design is…
A: Trusting that it will take you beyond your comfort zone. While there are aspects of Design that function as a logical response to a design problem, there are other aspects of it that require us to dive into uncharted waters. This kind of Design requires the trust of the designers to push beyond their self-limitations, fears, or expectations and simply trust the raw nature of Creativity.
Q: Where have you found TRUST through design?
A: When Design is true and without a shallow agenda, you can see it in the eyes of your collaborators. It’s as if their eyes light up and they “get it.” This has indicated to me that Design has the power to unify disciplines and fields.
Q: Where do you see a need for TRUST by design?
A: Design isn’t just about the visual output, it’s a way of thinking. Design should be right alongside any other discipline to take on our greatest challenges including Climate Change, the preservation and protection of our Democracy, and Social and Economic Justice, for starters.
Q: Who or what inspires you?
A: Anything Bjork does just blows my mind. Even today, she remains one of the most progressive and overlooked artists of our time.
Q: If you could sum up your outlook on life in a bumper sticker, what would it say?
A: Actually, I have two:
On a good day: Moving Mountains… One Stone at a Time.
On a bad day: Dracarys!
Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
A: Patience because… DAMN.
