The sixth annual Seattle Design Festival explores the theme Design Change. The 14-day festival in September 2016 will feature a block party, activities, exhibits, conferences and symposia, films, tours, speakers, workshops, parties, and more. We’re looking for enthusiastic collaborators to join the Seattle Design Festival planning committee. Get behind the scenes and meet other like-minded designers and design enthusiasts while planning the region’s largest design event.
Whether you are a design professional, a passionate fan, or you just want to have fun while supporting the design community, #SDF2016 is your stage. No design or work experience is necessary – just be committed, reliable, and a team player. Here’s a sampling of volunteer roles where you can contribute:
Block Party Team: Do you love swinging hammers, bringing design directly into public spaces, and working with contractors and crews to build public artworks? Support the layout, logistics, and build-out of the signature Seattle Design Festival Kick-Off Block Party in Occidental Park.
Conference Team: Push the level of design discourse in Seattle by planning and scheduling the #DesignChange Conference, a day-long event bringing together community activists, designers, professionals, city officials, and visiting luminaries.
Citywide Programs Team: Bring Design to every Seattle neighborhood by working with our 130+ program partners to schedule their events and make sure they succceed.
AfterParty Team: Throw an unforgettable bash that’s sure to be Seattle’s most fun Design party of the year, as well as the Seattle Design Festival’s premiere fundraiser and celebration.
Accessibility Coordinator: Make sure that people of all ages, abilities, and economic circumstances can attend every Seattle Design Festival event, and that our audiences of all kinds are welcome and comfortable in every space.
Volunteer Coordinator: Get to know everyone in Seattle and manage the volunteer staff who keep the Festival running!
Graphics, Collateral, and Documentation Coordinator: Support Design in Public’s communications and branding team by producing collateral, designing ads and web banners, creating wayfinding for Festival events, coordinating website content, updating the online Festival schedule, and adding your special flair to the Seattle Design Festival and #DesignChange brand.
Marketing and Publicity: Are you a social butterfly who attends every lecture, art opening, tour, and industry or community gathering? Help get the word out about the Seattle Design Festival! Hand out information cards at local art walks and farmer’s markets, and distribute posters in and around Seattle. Or, tell people about the festival on social media and other online sites you visit.
Audience Assistance: Happy to put on a smile and answer questions or give directions? Try your hand as entry greeter and crowd surveyor at the Block Party, make sure the Conference presentations flow smoothly all day, or meet Seattle’s top designers at the Closing Party.
Logistics: Like to use your muscle? Like to plan events? Then light setup and take-down for events and being an overall troubleshooter might suit you.
Photographers and Videographers: Are you a professional or amateur photographer or videographer? Give back to our community efforts by documenting our free, open-to-the-public annual event.
