Seattle has and always will be a boomtown. It is in our DNA. From the Yukon gold rush to the current tech boom, Seattle changes in dynamic fashion. In order to gain perspective on the current state of change in the Emerald City, we must look to the future and the lessons that can be learned from imagining a city shaped by a context evolved from our current reality. Weber Thompson is creating a virtual experience using Google Cardboard VR headsets that imagines what Occidental Park and the surrounding area might look like many years in the future. Just as the 1962 World’s Fair cast Seattle in a futuristic light, we are using virtual reality technology to tell a story of caution, consequence and hope and start a dialogue for design change.

“The future is there… looking back at us. Trying to make sense of the fiction we will have become.”  ― William Gibson, Pattern Recognition
